Play: when a user consumes a piece of content, either in part or in full; plays can occur within the uStudio mobile app, the uStudio desktop experience, or other applications through embedded players
At uStudio, we focus on providing analytics that match the real-life consumption behaviors of streaming media. Understanding that distractions often arise when listening to media, we designed our application analytics to account for users pressing pause and resume during playback. Thus, when a user pauses playback on an episode (e.g. to answer a phone call or respond to an email or text), then resumes playback on the same episode, it will count as a single play.
However, when the application is closed and reopened, resuming play on an episode will count as a new and separate play. Alternatively, if the user starts playback on an episode, navigates to and plays a different episode, then returns to play the original episode, two separate plays will be tallied for the original episode.
Also, remember that if the uStudio app or web browser tab is abandoned for a while, the operating system or browser may take the liberty to close it without the user knowing so as to preserve resources and/or battery life. After the app or tab is re-opened, a resumed play will count as a new and separate play.
