You can copy a video from one studio to another in uStudio's video platform Hub (e.g. from a work-in-progress studio to an approved-for-distribution studio) with no need to re-upload or pay for additional storage.
What does “copy video” do?
When you’re managing video assets in a studio, you can select a video (or several) and click the “Copy Video” button from the bottom toolbar to duplicate your video assets.
Why would I want to copy a video?
If you’ve ever downloaded a clip from one studio just so you could turn around and upload the same clip into another studio, then “Copy Video” is going to make your life easier.
For example, at uStudio we manage a "pre-release" studio (with footage from projects still in development, and members including external contractors and agencies), as well as a “marketing” studio (with only uStudio staff as members, in-house-only “approved” content that feeds our website, sales team, and partners). When we shoot customer case studies, for instance, all video assets stay in the “pre-release” studio until a customer signs off on a given clip. Then, we copy the video over to the "marketing" studio without having to re-upload it. So to us, “Copy Video” means strict control PLUS ease of use.
What gets copied? Thumbnails? Keywords?
uStudio will try to copy metadata on the video including the title, description, keywords, thumbnail, etc. If you have already begun using custom metadata, please note that we don’t copy over metadata that has no corresponding metadata field in a different studio. If you copy a video with custom metadata in the same studio, the metadata will be copied over.
Will customized players come across when a video is copied?
No, customized players (for instance, players with branded colors, unique calls-to-action, etc.) will not be copied to another studio because players are associated with a studio and player destinations.
Do copied videos count towards my usage cap? Or towards the storage included in my uStudio contract?
uStudio has taken measures to minimize the incremental impact of copied videos on storage utilization, so copied videos will notsignificantly affect your storage limits. Copied videos will increase your video counts, just like adding any video to a studio. If you copy a video to Studio B and don’t continue needing it in Studio A, you can always delete it from Studio A. If, however, you copy a video from Studio A to Studio B, then replace one of the assets, the videos will be counted individually towards both your storage limits and your video counts.
What if I can only access one studio?
You can only copy videos into studios that you are a member of. If your uStudio license is limited to one studio, consider whether multiple studios (for staging or other purposes) would be helpful when you renew. If your license covers multiple studios, you can always ask to become a member of additional licensed studios where your clips could come in handy.
Can I copy more than one video at a time?
Yes, you can select multiple videos before you hit the “Copy Video” button by checking the boxes next to the titles of the videos you want to copy.
How does copy video impact reporting?
The new (copied) video will start with a blank slate, having never been viewed. If you must hold onto the stats that were collected with the original video, be sure you don’t delete the original video from the original studio.
