With uStudio's Asset Replacement feature, you can update the root media file for a published video or audio asset without disrupting existing access points for your audience. This means there's no need to republish episodes, update embed codes, or share new links — once the file finishes processing, the updated content will be automatically available wherever the original asset was used.

When to Use Asset Replacement
There are times when you need to update a media file that’s already published — whether it's embedded on a web page, accessible through a podcast feed, or featured in the uStudio streaming app. Common scenarios include:
-
Content updates or corrections
-
Product changes or rebranding
-
Removing outdated or irrelevant segments
Asset Replacement lets you swap the underlying media while maintaining:
-
Embed codes and player locations
-
Player configurations
-
Metadata
-
View/listen stats and analytics
How to Replace an Asset
-
In the uStudio platform (Hub), navigate to the Edit Media screen for the asset you'd like to update.
-
Click the far left icon under "Media Asset" to initiate the replacement.
-
Select and upload the new file.
-
The replacement asset will be transcoded before becoming available. Transcode time will vary depending on the file size.
-
During this short processing window, users may briefly see a "Media not yet available" message. Once transcoding is complete, all existing links and embed codes will display the updated content.

Important Notes
-
Notifications: For uStudio streaming applications, asset replacement will not trigger push and email notifications if they are enabled for the show or episode.
-
Thumbnails: Replacing a media asset does not update the thumbnail. If needed, upload a new image or use the Thumbnail Selector to choose a frame from the updated file.
-
Social Publishing: Platforms like YouTube and Facebook do not currently support media replacement. If you've distributed content to these platforms, you’ll need to unpublish the original and re-upload the new version.
-
Feature Availability: Most studios have Asset Replacement enabled by default. If you don't see the replacement option, contact support@ustudio.com to confirm that it's activated for your account.
