What are Show Embeds?
Show Embeds allow admins to publish an entire show into a third-party enterprise application such as Salesforce, SharePoint, or your LMS. Unlike traditional content embeds that only offer single audio or video playback, Show Embeds offer users more options for streaming content and give administrators an easy way to distribute more content to more people.
For administrators, these embeds only need to be placed once and new episodes are automatically added as they are published. This reduces time-consuming updates, and gives audiences immediate access to the latest content in one place. Show Embeds also include user authentication which means they carry superior security, streaming analytics.
For audience members, Show Embeds feel like a natural extension of the uStudio mobile and desktop apps. They can stream shows directly within the tools they already use, browse episodes to choose what’s most relevant, and pick up where they left off across devices with progress synced to their profile.
With secure, user-aware playback, Show Embeds make it simple to distribute and promote complete series across your organization.
Why Use Show Embeds?
Show Embeds deliver benefits for both administrators and audience members, making it easier to manage programs while improving the listening and viewing experience.
For admins
- Set and forget: Place a Show Embed once, and it automatically refreshes as new episodes are published.
- User Authentication: Embeds are user aware. Only users with the ability to access the content can stream it.
- User Analytics: Named user playback data allows you to track unique streams and flows into your UMC dashboard so your program gets credit for all consumption no matter where it happens, giving admins a true view of the full audience they’re reaching.
- Audience Activation: Embeds support first-time program logins, allowing users to “activate” their accounts for mobile and desktop use as well. This means the user will count toward your program totals and receive notification emails so they know when new content is available.
- Meet your audience in their flow of work: Deliver content where your employees or audiences already are.
For audience members
- Cross-platform sync: Users can start content in the embed and pick up right where they left off on any platform.
- Content options: Browse episodes through the embed and choose what to stream, giving audience members control to pick the content most relevant to them.
- Content in context: Access content within or near related tools and tools used across the business.
- Easy access point: A simple entryway into your company’s streaming program without having to switch platforms.
- Familiar design: An intuitive experience that feels like a natural extension of the uStudio mobile and desktop apps.
Where Show Embeds Work
Show Embeds are designed to work seamlessly in any enterprise tool or portal that supports iframe functionality, including intranets, your LMS, CRM, sales enablement tool, or custom portals. Organizations often take advantage of platforms such as SharePoint or Salesforce to surface content directly in the places where employees already spend time.
Because Show Embeds require authentication, they are secure wherever they’re placed.
Authentication & User Awareness
Authentication and user permissions work the same way in Show Embeds as they do in the uStudio streaming apps, ensuring a consistent and secure experience.
- Authentication required: Users must log in via SSO to stream content. Show embeds use the same single sign-on connection already established for the uStudio streaming applications, so no additional configuration or IT effort is needed.
- Session persistence: Once logged in, users remain authenticated on the same page until a forced logout occurs.
- Respect for permissions: Group controls continue to apply within embeds, ensuring that only authorized users can access content in line with the same rules that govern the streaming apps.
Security
Show Embeds are built on the same multi-level security as our audience streaming applications.
- Before login: To encourage engagement, the embed displays the show name and artwork as an advertisement for the content. This preview is built into the embed code and will appear wherever the embed is placed, even to users who are not authenticated or do not have group-level access. Only this limited show preview is exposed. Episode titles, episode artwork, and streams are only available after authentication.
- Authentication: Users must authenticate with your existing single sign-on connection before they can access episode-level details or stream content.
- After login: Once authenticated, full episode information is displayed and streams are delivered through the same secure CDN used across our other streaming applications.
Analytics
Show Embeds provide full visibility into audience activity, with engagement tracked and reported just like plays on the mobile and desktop apps.
- Plays from Show Embeds are tracked the same way as plays on mobile and desktop apps, giving you a complete view of activity.
- Embed activity can be identified and separated just like mobile and desktop activity, giving you insight into modality preferences among your audience. This data is available in the uStudio Management Console through the Plays by Application table, all event exports, and the podcast analytics API.
- Engagement is tracked at the named-user level, showing both content consumed and percentage complete.
How to Add a Show Embed
Adding a Show Embed takes only a few steps in the uStudio Management Console.
- Log into the uStudio Management Console.
- Navigate to the Show you’d like to embed.
-
Select Embed Show.
-
Copy the code from the window.
-
Paste the embed code into any platform that accepts iframes (e.g., SharePoint, Salesforce, LMS like Docebo).
Note: Some applications may require uStudio embeds to be specifically allowed before they will render. Here are instructions that outline how any Site Admin can do that in SharePoint. For guidance in other applications, don't hesitate to reach out to support@ustudio.com.That’s it! Your embed will automatically display the full show and refresh with each new episode published, with no further configuration needed.
FAQs
Show Embed Availability
Is configuration required?
No. Because authentication is required, Show Embeds are secure and can be placed anywhere that accepts iframes.
What if the Show Embed link doesn’t appear on my show in the UMC?
If you don’t see the Embed Show option, it may not be enabled for your account. Please contact success@ustudio.com and our team will confirm your configuration and enable Show Embeds if appropriate.
Can I place a show embed if there are no episodes yet?
Yes. If a show has no episodes, the embed will display a message redirecting users to the uStudio mobile or desktop app. We recommend only embedding an empty show when the embedded space is still in staging and not yet live for end users.
Show Embed Setup
How can I edit my Show Embed?
All edits to a Show Embed are made in the uStudio Management Console (UMC). The way your show is configured in the UMC, including artwork, episode order, and published content, is exactly how it will appear in your third-party applications.
What order are episodes displayed in?
The embed will display the episodes in the order configured in UMC, which admins can adjust.
How soon are new episodes available in the embed?
As soon as they’re processed and published to the show, they will display in the embed automatically.
What’s the maximum number of episodes that can appear in a show embed?
Embeds are designed to scale with typical enterprise show sizes.
Why am I not seeing the list view for my show embed?
If a show has only one published episode, that episode fills the entire embed instead of displaying a list view. Once additional episodes are published, the list view appears automatically.
Audience Access & Experience
What if a user has never logged into the uStudio mobile or desktop application before?
No problem. Show Embeds support first-time logins. When a user authenticates through an embed, their account is “activated” for mobile and desktop use as well. This means they’ll count toward your program totals and begin receiving notification emails about new content.
Why do I see an old iteration of my show name and artwork in my embed?
The poster shown before authentication reflects the show’s details at the time the embed code was generated. To update it, regenerate the embed code in the UMC and replace it in your application.
What do users see if they don’t have access to a show?
They’ll see a content unavailable message.
Why do I see an error message in the Show Embed as an audience member?
Error messages can appear for many reasons, including: internet connectivity issues, content has not completed publishing, audience member doesn’t have permission to access the content, the show is no longer available, etc. If an error message persists, please contact support@ustudio.com.
Advanced Use Cases
Can I embed a feed or cross-show collection?
Yes. Episodes can belong to multiple shows, so you can curate a collection (e.g., Leadership Spotlights or Onboarding Essentials) and embed it as a feed.
When embedding in SharePoint, I’m seeing an error “embedding from this website is not allowed.” What should I do?
A SharePoint Site Administrator will need to allow uStudio embeds by following our step-by-step instructions.
I can’t drop an embed into Confluence. How can I fix this?
Confluence doesn’t accept raw embed code pasted directly into a page. Instead, it structures how embeds must be entered. Follow our step-by-step guide to map the uStudio embed code into the proper Confluence fields.
