This article covers the standard, public App Store uStudio app (not white-label). It shows how to purchase licenses in Apple Business Manager and deploy the app with Microsoft Intune.
Prerequisites
- Apple Business Manager account with access to Apps and Books (you’ll download a location/content token).
-
Intune tenant with permission to upload an Apps & Books (VPP) location token and manage iOS/iPadOS apps.
Step 1: Get uStudio licenses in ABM
- ABM → Apps and Books: search for the uStudio app (public App Store).
- Choose the Location you have connected and click Get to acquire the needed licenses (uStudio mobile app licenses are free).
Step 2: Sync ABM apps into Intune
- In Intune, open your Apple VPP (Apps and Books) token and click Sync.
- After sync, uStudio appears under Apps as an iOS/iPadOS volume-purchased app.
Step 3: Assign and deploy
- Open the uStudio volume-purchased app in Intune → Assignments.
- Target Azure AD groups as:
- Required (auto-install), or
- Available for enrolled devices (user installs from Company Portal).
- Pick License type:
- Device licensing (no Apple ID on device), or
- User licensing (follows the user across devices).
Step 4: Validate
- Use an Intune-enrolled test device in the targeted group.
- Confirm the app auto-installs (Required) or shows in Company Portal (Available).
Quick troubleshooting
- App not visible in Intune: Re-sync the VPP/Apps & Books connector; make sure licenses were acquired in the same ABM Location used by the uploaded token.
- Install doesn’t start: Check group assignment, available licenses, device enrollment status, and whether you chose device vs. user licensing appropriately.
