System links are intentionally constructed to ensure seamless access across mobile and desktop. Interference from email security tools (such as URL Defense), link shorteners, or manual edits can disrupt that experience, leading to user friction or, in some cases, blocking access entirely.
Because of the number of systems and configurations involved in enterprise email delivery, we recommend validating the link access workflow prior to launch and at least quarterly going forward. Where end-user configurations vary, testing across a representative set of those configurations is also recommended.
Users will typically access links through either system-generated emails or admin share links via promotional materials created by your program team. The testing steps for each are outlined below.
Testing Links from System-Generated Emails
- Admin stages the test.
- In the UMC, navigate to Administration and create a group with the audience members who will be conducting the test.
- In the UMC Content area, create a show designated for testing. Set the access to Private and select the group created in Step 1a.
- Audience members stage the test.
- The audience members that were assigned to the testing group need to download the app on their mobile device and login.
- They will navigate to the show intended for testing and follow the show.
- Admin triggers the notification.
- Only after audience members have followed the show, an Admin publishes a new episode to the test show.
- The new episode email notification will automatically be triggered once the episode has completed processing and is available in the app.
Pro-tip: For the quickest processing time use an episode that is already published to a different show or a short audio-only episode.
- Audience verifies the link workflow.
- Using the device where the mobile app was downloaded in Step 2a, the audience members will locate the new episode notification email in their standard enterprise email app. Email subject will be “Tune in to [episode name]”.
- The audience member clicks the play button link in the email.
- The intended experience: The link opens the episode directly in the mobile app.
- Incorrect experience: The link opens in a browser and redirects the user to download the app instead of opening the episode. Please contact support@ustudio.com to identify the specific steps required to resolve.
Testing Admin Promotion Links via Email
Prerequisite: Steps 1-3 of the System-Generated Emails Test is complete.
- Admin sends email.
- Admin copies the share link for the published episode from the UMC.
- Admin sends an email with the link through their standard channel (personal email and/or via internal email marketing tool) to the audience members in the group.
- Audience verifies the link workflow.
- Using the device where the mobile app was downloaded, the audience members will locate the email sent from the Admin in their standard enterprise email app.
- The audience member clicks the link in the email.
- The intended experience: The link opens the episode directly in the mobile app.
